Cafe 83, Seksyen 7, Shah Alam

I guess one more cafe in Shah Alam, wouldn't hurt right? Say hello to Cafe 83 ! Located at Seksyen 7, in the same row as Big Brothers, Cavallo and Belanga. It is just below of Andheqa Boutique. I was waiting for my boss, when I discovered this cafe. I remembered that my friend Syikin was the muralist for this cafe. Yes, she did The Birdmenco & Panda Pet Cafe. I gave her a ring and we chat.

No. That is not a scar on her face. That is what we called as "Cahaya Nur". Hahaha  

One thing that I like about this cafe is their interior. They are going for something classic, vintage and evergreen. An environment that is approachable and long-lasting. No need to change every few months and waste expenses. As you can see, the woods are all from Jogjakarta.

I had already eaten my breakfast so I only ordered one cookie and one hot mocha. My coffee-taste experiences may not be as good as a coffee-addict, but the taste was passable. The cookies sold were homemade and it was delicious. I had the Macadamia Cookies and I find that the nuts were in big slices. I prefer it be a little less chunky.

I find it odd naming the cafe with numbers. So according to Syikin, (as a muralist, I bet she spends more time with the owner and crew of the cafe) she said that the number 83 represents the year where the owner, Encik Rosli and Puan Azila, got married. Awwww so sweet. Hehe. Well, that's not just it. It also represents the number of ayat in surah Yaasin. Good intentions. Aminnn. Moga diberkati perniagaan uncle and auntie :)

If you were ever to drop by, please order Spagethi Creamy Carbonara, Grilled Chicken Chop, Cafe Latte, Caramel Hazelnut and their cookies. Owh btw they are using Artura Beans for their coffee.

Qawa Coffee, Lorong Budiman, Terengganu

I was driving back to my hometown Terengganu on last Friday and while driving at night, through the corner of my eyes, I caught a glimpse of something bright with a hint of red and it looks like a big brick. So I asked my sister to see it and find the name of the place. My sister only caught the arabic letters of "qaf" and "wau". So I googled it afterwards and found out the name called Qawa Coffee & Sandwhich located at Lorong Budiman. I guess the "Coffee Shop Phenomenon" has spread all the way to Terengganu.

We were only had the chance to go there on Sunday while driving back to Shah alam. As a frequent user of waze, I typed in Lorong Budiman and the cafe is located along the way. As there is no specific lot to explain the location. You may just drive till you see the red contena.

They used two big red containers for the office upstairs and the cafe downstairs. The container only fit for the work station like a fridge, a sink, two cakes display, coffee machine, and cashier. Customers are needed to sit outside on the open but I would recommend the management to put umbrellas on all the tables. Not some of it. By noon in Terengganu is effing hot. 

As the nama Qawa seems unique it is actually an arabic terms means coffee. It is a term used by earlier local people here to pronounce coffee. For example, "Mung, gi beli serbuk qawa se" or "Mai minum qawa". Its quite interesting how they've come out with the name.

The pricing is as Starbucks. So you know what to expect right? As my dad said, "Price as Starbucks, taste as Starbucks." Which means the taste was really good !

Mine was Caramel Hazelnut Frappucino (RM14). So smooth and beyond delicious. Not to sweet and not too bitter.

My sister's Ice Creamy Green Tea (RM10). She said the taste of the green tea is less, should be more. But still good.

Since all of our drinks were that good, she went for second ! Ice Blended Creamy Raspberry (RM16). This one was the bomb ! Even my dad loves it too. Raspberry fruits blended with ice and milk or yogurt top with whipped cream and dried cranberries. Highly recommended. 

Besides than normal coffee-based drinks, teas and juices, they even have cakes and sandwiches. I was too full to eat so I just had the drinks.

I guess the next time I'm back in Tetengganu, this will be my first stop. Hehe. Pictures below credit to abah :D

Mikey's New York Pizza, Publika

The first time I went to this place was for a friend's surprised birthday celebration. I google it before hand to know where and what will they serve at this joint. As simple as the name stated, its pizza. But not your average pizza hut & dominos, it is more to the new yorker styled pizzas. Thin crust with big portion of slices. Yes, they serve by slices. I have always imagining myself living like the new yorkers with their big slices of pizza that needed two hands to eat it and a glass of cold drink.

Well it seems that I can now fulfill my imagination. *cough* It is not that difficult to find the place as if you were lost, you can just find directions from people inside the publika mall. That is how I did. Okay now lets talk pizza.

They have 9 different flavours ranging from RM8.88 per slice and up to RM15.88. They also sell whole pizza which they called it as whole pie pizza, ranging from RM59.88 and up to RM88.88.

Some of the topping can be as simple as just plain mix of cheese (classic new york pizza) to the spiciest in Asia known as The 9-1-1 Pizza which contains one and only cili api with cheese. I dare you to try this. Haha ! My favourite would be The Tony Soprano and The meatballs pizza.

They also have what they called as upgrades. Its like a package when you buy by slices or pie, with additional charges you can get drinks and fries. One more thing about their fries is not like our average french fries, they use waffle-cut fries with 5 choices of topping and dipping sauce named after countries like Houstan and Brooklyn.

I'll share you the menu, because menu is what I always look for first thing before going to a new place. Just to prepare my wallet.

And not to be missed is their Boneless Buffalo Wings, what's not to be loved when it is boneless right? 8-pcs of boneless wings coated with bread crumbs and Mikey's signature buffalo sauce. Munch it all without having your hands dirty. I warned you, the wings is a bit spicy and sour. Kinda like tangy at the back of your throat. Trying eating it first and then try dipping in the house-made blue cheese. Tengok boleh pergi atau tak. Haha.

The decoration of the place is based on New York's enviroment, in my opinion why I said this, was  because the frames hanging by the wall with pictures of newspaper cut by The New York Times and famous people of NY of course. But the people work there is not from New York. Hehe.

Food Review : KGB (Killer Gourmet Burger), Bangsar

Once, McD was it for burgers. The best of the best. Then came Burger Bakar Abang Burn or maybe the one in Wangsa Maju (though I had only taste the one located at seksyen 7). Now I can say that I've found the best among the best for burger joint. Thanks to my bff Adel, for bringing me to KGB, which stands for Killer Gourmet Burger situated in Bangsar, for my birthday treat. She was very convincing that this joint was the bomb !

I've been here twice already and would come for third. The burgers here have both chicken and beef either crust seared (beef), grill (chicken/beef) and fried (chicken). Besides that, they even have Vegetarian Burgers. Not to worry all you vegetariansss out thereeee. You can still enjoy it here.

When I first visited here, I ordered the TORNADO CHICKEN. A fulfilling grilled chicken, crunchy onion rings, runny sunny-side up egg and buffalowing aoilo. At first glance, it looks like normal burger with upgrades but as you bite into it, all the juicy-ness from the chicken and the eggs run through your fingers ! Trust me its going to be a messy dish. It's way different from your normal burger. But sadly, no picture on this particular burger to show as we were so hungry and forgot about snapping pictures. Please do give a try for this one.

On second visit, thought of getting the same one but think again, why not try other menu right? So I went for KGB SPIKED - crust seared beef, sharp cheddar, crispy beef bacon and KGB spicy sauce. According to its definition, I was thinking of something that is spicy and juicy, but it turns out slightly lesser than what I have imagined. The meat not even juicy but passable and I can't taste the spicy sauce. A bit dissapointed though.

My sister had the CLUB - grilled chicken, fresh avocado, egg salad, chicken crisps and herbed ranch. She said it was okay. The reason she pickes this was to try and taste the avocado. She can taste a bit of sweetness in it and due to major hunger, she let it slideee.

But one thing for sure, if you ever come cross to this joint, please please please order their TEXAS JALAPENO STEAK & CHEESE (beef/chicken) ! It may seems like chilli cheese fries but this was off the roof ! Really good and really full and it was hard to explain through words. A bucket full of hot fries, generous amount of sour cream, a handful of chicken/beef and a glorious sea of cheeseeeeeeeeee and top it off with jalapeno to complete it ! Every bite is magical ! *drooling and craving for it now*

TEXAS JALAPENO STEAK & CHEESE - RM 14.90

To go here, make sure you park accordingly as the parking area is a bit limited. I had to park inside Bangsar Village II and walk all the way to KGB. But it was worth it. It might be a bit expensive but once in a month won't hurt. As KGB said, "Life is too short for a bad burger" :)

Food review : Panda Pet House Cafe, Seksyen 13, Shah Alam

Cafe with cute animals included is starting to make a place in the F&B businesses. As we all know, cats and cafes combined together can only be found in Japan. But not to forget there are also some in Setapak - The Country Cat Cafe and SS15 - Coffee Cottage Cat Cafe. But not sure whether these cafes still exist. Here in Shah Alam, there is one. Recently opened three months ago.

I have found this cafe through a friend of mine who did the murals for them. So I decided to went there this morning. It was located at the same row of the Cotton Craft cafe. Just turn right and there located the Panda Pet House Cafe. According to their instagram @pandapethouse it seems that it may have been a pet centre at first and gradually change to a small cafe with new instagram account @pandapethousecafe

The banner of the cafe needs to be improved a bit as it does not seem inviting enough. But the murals starting at their glass door was pleasant enough to barge in. I know it has only opened three months ago, but the place inside doesn't look inviting. Too quiet I guess and maybe a bit too small. I think if its not about the luxury of playing with cats while eating, they have to do some major promotions to get people in.

I know that our culture is not that keen on eating while having cats around, but fret not. They have a private room for you to play with and eat with if you like, for a minimum payment of RM10 on F&B. The servings are not that heavy - potato lasagna, cakes, puddings and drinks from the chiller. No kitchen.

To be note - CATS only available on 1 pm onwards. As I've reached around 11.30 am, there are no cats. Its a bit sad though. So there will be no pictures of cats for this blog on the time being. I'll just share on the deco and murals okay.

Food Review : Macaroni Food & Coffee, Seksyen 9, Shah Alam

 Food has always been a crave for a foodie like me. I bet most of us do. But we know, pricey foods may sometimes be in a way that bar us from buying and enjoying the foods. For me, once in a month might not hurt. I guess. Haha.

Strolling down with my car around seksyen 9 and I've noticed a new cafe is opening. Named simply as Macaroni Food & Coffee, really caught my eyes. As the signage was really big, you simply can't missed it.

With the warm and friendly gestures of the staff as I enter the place, shows that this place might just be a good place to eat while bonding with your family and friends.

A good choice of choosing rustic and wood theme for interior, gives the customers a feeling of comfort with big glass windows allowing the rays of the sunset shines through.

Okay enough about the interior. Lets talk about what should have been in the first place. Food.

I would recommend you their signature Pumpkin Soup in homemade Bread (RM 15). Trust me worth the penny. Creamy pumpkin soup with just the right amount of thickness and taste does makes you feel full. Do not underestimate the small portion.

Next would be their 10-inch homemade pizza. By 'homemade' , I mean their dough. Made freshly when ordered. I decided to try their cheapest pizza, called Pizza Margharita (RM 12). Topped with fresh tomatoes, oregano leaves,  mozarella cheese and tomato sauce. It is really quite a simple dish that you can dine with your friends. Not too heavy. The thickness of the dough were thin enough to be eaten. Carbo control. Haha.

What better than ending a meal with dessert? I've tried their Creme Brulee with blueberry (RM 9). Suprisingly this is the best creme brulee I have ever taste ! The burnt of sugar on top were perfectly torch as it can be simply burnt and you would not want that on your dessert. They torch it perfectly to blend in with the taste of the custard below. I could not have enough of it. If I were not that full, I might just order for second.
